Norfolk Parish Registers on FindMyPast

Important note August 2016: since this post was originally written and the spreadsheet information was collated, collection names have been changed to more accurately reflect the years included in the published images. Therefore, the spreadsheet will sometimes indicate, for FMP, that register images extend further than they really do, as the most recent entries in the registers have not, in fact, been included and transcribed. The Ancestry collections often indicate the full range of the original register as the title, but again the more recent entries are not included.

Hot on the heels of Norfolk's parish registers appearing in indexed form on TheGenealogist, a similar announcement comes along from FindMyPast - we're being spoilt! Search away and link straight to an image of the register. Hurrah, I hear you cry.

As ever though, the collection isn't quite complete.

FindMyPast have done a great job of listing which parishes appear in the collections of Baptisms, Marriages, Banns and Burials, as well as the first last years for those entries. Well done to them, as subscription websites aren't always great at this. You can find the lists here

I've also done a little summary here to give you an indication of what you might not expect to be there, and what's not there.

It's worth saying that those parishes which were hardest to access are still the hardest to access, for the same reasons as before - generally that registers have not been deposited at an archive, that registers were destroyed eg through bombing or fire, that they are looked after by an archive other than Norfolk Record Office (eg South West Norfolk ones being at Wisbech Museum) or that there are other copying restrictions imposed by the parish. For these, visit NRO or NHC, Wisbech Museum, or look for transcription options on and offline.

As a bonus, Lothingland Suffolk registers and a few others are included in the 'Norfolk' collections, for reasons I have explained before.

Here are the Suffolk ones together with their availability on FindMyPast:

For brevity, given Norfolk's vast number of parishes (over 700), listed here are only the parishes that do not appear to be in FMP's new collections from my initial investigation. They represent approximately a quarter of parishes (but a much smaller proportion of entries as they are mostly small, population wise):
